Honor Unveils Robot Phone With Moving Camera That Reacts and Dances

Honor has revealed new details about its upcoming “Robot phone,” a smartphone featuring a movable camera system designed to interact with users in expressive and practical ways. The device, expected to launch later this year, blends robotics, AI, and advanced camera hardware to create a more responsive and animated phone experience.

A Phone That Moves on Its Own

Chinese smartphone maker Honor has expanded on its earlier teaser of a phone equipped with a robotic camera arm. Unlike traditional smartphones, this device can move without direct commands, responding naturally to music, conversation, and user behavior.

According to the company, the phone’s robotic camera can nod, shake, and even dance in rhythm with music. Honor describes this behavior as part of the device’s built-in “personality,” designed to make interactions feel more human and engaging.

AI-Powered Interaction

Users can communicate with the phone’s assistant using both voice and text. In demonstrations shared by Honor, the robot camera reacts visually to questions, such as offering outfit suggestions by nodding or shaking its camera module to signal approval or rejection.

The Artificial Intelligence system is also capable of recognizing different situations and automatically adjusting the camera’s behavior without requiring explicit instructions from the user.

Advanced Camera on a Robotic Gimbal

At the center of the design is a 200 megapixel camera mounted on a three-axis robotic gimbal. Honor claims that the system features built-in stabilization technology, enabling the camera to rotate smoothly while capturing photos and video.

The phone supports a Super Steady video mode and a cinematic feature called Spinshot, which rotates the camera by 90 or 180 degrees to create dramatic visual effects. The robotic camera can also track users during video calls using AI-powered object tracking, offering a more dynamic alternative to fixed front-facing cameras.

Built With Foldable Phone Technology

Honor said it developed a custom micro motor to control the camera’s movement and borrowed engineering techniques from its foldable phone lineup to improve durability. The robotic arm uses the same materials as the hinge found in the Honor Magic V6, with a tensile strength rated at 2800 MPa, allowing the complex mechanism to fit securely inside a smartphone body.

Launch Timeline and Other Announcements

The company plans to release the Robot phone in the second half of this year. Alongside the reveal, Honor also introduced several other devices, including the Honor Magic V6 foldable phone with a 6600 mAh battery, the Honor MagicPad 4 tablet, and the Honor MagicBook 14 laptop.

With its animated camera and AI-driven behavior, Honor’s Robot phone signals a bold experiment in how smartphones could evolve beyond static slabs into more expressive, interactive devices.
